Set Apart | Week Two

Opening

Ask your group:

  • What comes to mind when you hear the word holy?
  • Have you ever misunderstood holiness as perfection or pressure?

Then ask:

  • How does it change your view to see holiness as a Spirit-led process rather than a performance goal?

Overview

Scripture: 1 Peter 1:13–16; Galatians 5:16–26

Main Idea:

Holiness isn’t about perfection—it’s about transformation. It’s not achieved by trying harder or following rules, but by walking with the Spirit. As we surrender to Him, He reshapes our desires and empowers us to live like Jesus. Holiness becomes visible not through religious effort, but through Spirit-produced fruit that changes how we love, relate, and live.

Key Insight:

We often fall into one of two traps—legalism (trying to earn God’s approval) or license (doing whatever we want because grace will cover it). But the gospel offers a better way: freedom through formation by the Spirit.

Discussion Questions

  • What are some misconceptions you’ve held or heard about holiness?
  • Read Galatians 5:16–21. Which acts of the flesh do you see causing the most damage in our culture—or in your own heart?
  • Read Galatians 5:22–25. Which fruit of the Spirit do you most long to grow in right now? Why?
  • How would your relationships change if you lived more surrendered to the Spirit instead of trying to manage your behavior?
  • What’s one area in your life where you’re rationalizing sin instead of resisting it? What might repentance look like there?

Closing

Take time to pray together:

  • Invite the Holy Spirit to realign your group’s desires with God’s design.
  • Ask for grace to walk in step with the Spirit this week.
  • Pray specifically over areas of struggle, and celebrate visible fruit in each other’s lives.
