Serving Sunday

Home Guide: Commitment to Serve – Galatians 6
Opening
Ask your group:
- What has been your experience with serving in the local church—positive or negative?
- When you think about carrying someone else’s burden, what comes to mind?
Then ask:
- Why do you think service is essential for a growing and healthy faith?
Overview
Scripture: Galatians 6:2–10
Main Idea:
Serving the local church is more than volunteering—it’s a Spirit-empowered act of love that grows maturity, deepens community, and transforms lives. Paul reminds us that burden-bearing isn’t optional—it’s how fragile faith grows into durable, lasting discipleship.
Key Insight:
Every act of committed service is us saying, “I’ll do for you what Jesus has done for me.” Faith grows durable when we step beyond self-focus, pride, or weariness and love others in real, consistent ways.
Discussion Questions
- Read Galatians 6:2. What does it mean to “carry each other’s burdens”?
- What is the “law of Christ,” and how does serving fulfill it?
- Why do you think pride can keep us from helping or being helped?
- How have you seen weariness or lack of immediate fruit tempt you to give up?
- In what ways does serving benefit both your own household and your church family?
- What’s one area where God might be calling you to serve more consistently or courageously?
Three Reasons We Step Back from Serving
1. Pride – We believe we don’t need to help or be helped.
2. Weariness – We get discouraged when fruit doesn’t come quickly.
3. Self-Focus – We turn inward, prioritizing only our own household.
Each of these leads to isolation, passivity, and missed blessings.
Three Reasons to Commit to Serving
1. Serving Humbles Us: Galatians 6:3 – We’re never above needing or giving help.
2. Serving Builds Perseverance: Galatians 6:9 – God promises long-term harvest to those who don’t give up.
3. Serving Strengthens the Church and Our Homes: Galatians 6:10 – It multiplies blessing when we care for one another.
Application
- If you’re already serving: Invite 2–3 others to join you. Don’t keep the joy to yourself.
- If you’re ready to serve: Don’t let pride, fatigue, or self-focus rob you of God’s growth and joy.
- As a group, identify one way you can serve together in the church or community this fall.
Closing (Prayer Prompts)
- Thank Jesus for serving you first—and showing you how to serve others.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to renew your strength where you’ve grown weary.
- Pray for humility and courage to carry burdens and receive help.
- Invite God to multiply blessing through your group’s shared ministry.
