Seasons of the Soul | Week Three

Seasons of the Soul – Week 3 Home Group Guide
Opening
Ask your group:
• How do you tend to respond to transition—resistance, control, or denial?
Then ask:
• What’s one change or transition in your life that was unexpectedly hard?
• Why do you think God often uses seasons of transition to grow us spiritually?
Overview
Scripture: Matthew 16:21–26
Main Idea:
Seasons of transition often feel like fall—the letting go of what’s familiar, comfortable, and even good. But in the Kingdom of God, these seasons are not without purpose. Jesus invites us to follow Him into necessary transitions, even ones marked by loss or uncertainty, so that we can experience deeper surrender, greater peace, and new life.
Key Insight:
When we resist, control, or deny transition, we may miss the growth, freedom, and presence God offers in the process. Surrendering to transition is not weakness—it is trust.
Discussion Questions
• What stands out to you from Matthew 16:21–26?
• Why do you think Jesus had to plainly tell His disciples what was going to happen to Him?
• How does Peter’s reaction to Jesus’ words mirror how we sometimes resist God’s direction?
• Jesus calls Peter’s view ‘human’ rather than ‘God’s.’ How can we recognize when we are stuck in a human point of view?
• What does it mean to ‘take up your cross’? How does that relate to personal transitions?
• Where might God be inviting you to let go of comfort, familiarity, or control in this season?
Closing
Take time to pray together:
• Ask God to help you embrace, not resist, the current season of transition.
• Invite the Holy Spirit to help you surrender control and trust His plan.
• Pray for one another to have peace and purpose during this season.
• Thank God for His presence in every part of the journey—especially the difficult ones.
