Seasons of the Soul Week 4

Main Idea

When comfort fades and sorrow deepens, God makes sadness sacred and faith grow stronger. Winter of the Soul isn’t the end of the story—it’s where resurrection begins.

Scripture Focus

- Lamentations 3:21–24 – “Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed... great is your faithfulness.”

- Lamentations 1:2 – “Bitterly she weeps at night… All her friends have betrayed her.”

- Matthew 16:25–26 – “If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it… What do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your soul?”

Group Discussion

1. What Do You See?

Read Lamentations 3:19–24 aloud.

- What words or images from this passage describe the experience of spiritual winter?

- What stands out to you about Jeremiah’s honesty and his shift to hope?

2. What Do You Feel?

- Have you ever walked through a “winter of the soul”? What made it feel so heavy or lonely?

- What helped you see God’s presence or faithfulness in the midst of that season?

3. What Do You Believe?

- “God’s love outlasts every loss. His faithfulness is greater than our feelings.” What does this mean for your current season of life?

- Do you believe waiting on God in sadness can be a form of worship?

Application:

Say this truth aloud as a group:

WINTER TEACHES:

- Remember rightly – What pain do you need to bring to God instead of hiding or rushing past it?

- Wait expectantly – Where is God asking you to trust His timing, not your feelings?

- Receive mercy – What old comfort is dying so that new life can grow in its place?

Challenge:

Before next Sunday, choose one of the following:

- Read Lamentations 3:19–24 every day and journal how God speaks to you.

- Share with a friend or group member where you are grieving something lost.

- Spend 10 minutes each day in silence, simply asking God to meet you in your season.

Prayer Focus

- Lament – Name areas where you feel grief, confusion, or spiritual numbness.

- Hope – Ask the Spirit to help you remember God’s love and mercy in this season.

- Worship – Thank Jesus for being present in winter and for the promise of resurrection.

Key Takeaway Quote
