Religion Isn't Enough
Main Idea: Knowing God, Not Just Knowing About God
"I had only heard about You before, but now I have seen You with my own eyes." — Job 42:5
It's possible to know a lot about God without truly knowing Him.
Job was a faithful man who loved God, but after everything he experienced, he realized there was still more of God to know. God didn't come to explain everything Job had been through. Instead, God revealed Himself. In the end, God's presence became the answer Job needed most.
This week invites us to move beyond simply knowing facts about God and into a deeper relationship with Him.

Key Observations: God Is the Answer
Job wanted answers, but God gave him something greater—His presence. Sometimes what we need most isn't an explanation but a deeper relationship with God.
We Can Miss God in Different Ways
There are four mindsets that can keep us from knowing Him:
The Consumer – Loving God's blessings more than God.
The Performer – Looking spiritual without giving God your heart.
The Controller – Trusting your own plans more than God.
The Achiever – Staying so busy for God that you stop spending time with Him.
Knowing About God Isn't the Same as Knowing God
The more we rely only on our knowledge, the easier it is for God to become distant. God invites us into a relationship, not just more information.
Brokenness Leads to God's Presence
We don't experience God by proving we're right. We experience Him when we surrender, trust Him, and let Him shape our hearts.

The Consumer
- Do you spend more time thanking God for what He gives than simply enjoying being with Him?

- Have you ever been so busy serving God that you neglected your relationship with Him? What did that look like?

Application: Slow Down. Surrender. Stay Close.
Slow Down
Make time this week to simply be with God.
Surrender
Give Him the questions, worries, or situations you've been trying to control.
Stay Close
Choose relationship with God over simply doing more for Him.
Prayer Focus: A Deeper Relationship
- Ask God to help you know Him more personally.
- Pray for the humility to trust God, even when you don't understand.
- Ask God to show you where you've become a consumer, performer, controller, or achiever.
- Pray that Waymaker would be known for pursuing God's presence above everything else.
Response Challenge
This week, spend five minutes each day with no agenda.
- Don't ask God for anything right away. Simply sit with Him and pray: "God, I want to know You more."
- Pay attention to how He speaks through Scripture, prayer, and the everyday moments of your week.
