Peace Begins Here | Week One

Main Texts:

John 16:33, Luke 2:8–14, Romans 5:1–5

MAIN IDEA

True peace is not the absence of pain or problems, but the presence of Jesus. While the world offers a version of peace it can’t actually deliver, Jesus provides real peace, peace with God and the peace of God. Through Him, we’re not only reconciled to God but equipped to live with hope, courage, and stability in a broken world.

SCRIPTURE FOCUS

• John 16:33 – “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

• Luke 2:10–14 – “…I bring you good news that will cause great joy… Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

• Romans 5:1–5 – “Since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ…”

GROUP DISCUSSION

1. What Do You See?

• How do the angels' announcement in Luke 2 and Jesus’ promise in John 16 redefine our idea of peace?

• What stood out to you in Ryan’s message about chasing peace in all the wrong places?

2. What Do You Feel?

• Have you ever expected something (a person, possession, or experience) to bring you peace and been let down?

• Where do you feel a “lack of peace” in your life right now?

3. What Do You Believe?

• What does it mean that peace is a person (Jesus) not just a feeling?

• How does knowing Jesus has “overcome the world” affect the way you handle fear or anxiety?

APPLICATION

This Week’s Challenge: Choose one of the following steps to help you contend for peace this week:

• Re-center on Jesus: Spend time each day this week reflecting on John 16:33.

• Name the Distraction: Identify something you’re using to chase peace outside of Christ, then surrender it.

• Practice Peace: Reach out to someone who needs peace and be a peacemaker in word or deed.

PRAYER FOCUS

• Peace Within – Pray to receive and dwell in the peace that comes from being right with God.

• Peace Over Circumstances – Ask God for perspective and calm in the middle of any current storms.

• Peace Shared – Pray about who God is calling you to encourage, comfort, or forgive this week.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

• “Peace isn’t the absence of problems—it’s the presence of Jesus.”

• “What was proclaimed at Jesus’ cradle was accomplished at His cross.”

• “The peace of God doesn’t change—even when life does.”
