Main Idea 

The Church is the visible family of God on earth, and we are called to make sure no child is unseen. When we open our hearts and homes to the vulnerable, we mirror the gospel story and make space for heaven to meet earth. 

Scripture Focus 

Isaiah 1:17 – “Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.” 

James 1:27 – “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress…” 

Galatians 4:4–7 – “…God sent his Son… to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship…” 

John 14:2–3 – “My Father’s house has many rooms… I go to prepare a place for you.”

1. What Do You See? 

Read Isaiah 1:17 and James 1:27 aloud. 

What stands out to you about God’s heart for the vulnerable? 

Why do you think God connects justice and care for the fatherless to “true religion”?

How has your understanding of foster care or adoption changed after hearing the Mill’s story? 

Have you ever felt “unseen” or “outside” the family of God? What brought you back? 

3. What Do You Believe? 

Galatians 4:6 says we are now God’s children and heirs. How does that identity shape how we live and love?

Application

Step Into the Gap. Ask God to show you one way this week to reflect His love to the unseen or vulnerable in your community. Then take that step.
