Bridging the Gap | Week Two

Scripture: John 4:1–26
Main Idea: We are always one generation away from either revival or drift; and that difference lies in how we live and pass down our faith.
Opener:
Ask everyone: What’s one thing you picked up (good or bad) from the previous generation’s approach to faith or church?
Read aloud: John 4:9–24
Context Recap:
- Jesus meets the Samaritan woman at the well.
- He crosses cultural and religious boundaries to engage her.
- He gently exposes her brokenness and redirects her to authentic worship: “in Spirit and truth.”
Group Discussion
Big Idea 1: Faith Without Fire Doesn’t Last
“Many in the next generation inherit religious rituals without relationship, gaining form without formation.”
Discuss:
- What kind of faith legacy is being passed to the next generation right now?
- How do we avoid passing down either shame-based faith or shallow emotionalism?
- How have you personally experienced faith that was more “ritual” than “relationship”?
Big Idea 2: Jesus Redefines Worship
“The solution isn’t the right mountain; it’s the right Messiah.”
Reflect:
Why do you think Jesus emphasized “worship in Spirit and truth”?
In your own words, what does that look like day-to-day?
Big Idea 3: Faith That Transfers Is Lived Out
“They didn’t just preach at me; they walked with me.”
Discuss:
- What did you see modeled well in the previous generation’s worship life?
- How are you modeling worship, Scripture, and Spirit-led living?
- What would “relational humility” look like in your current relationships?
Application:
- Ask each person to reflect on and share (or write down privately if needed):
- One way they can shift from giving opinions to showing presence.
- One area where they can anchor their week in Scripture.
- One relationship where they need to transfer faith with more grace and truth.
