Be Transformed | Week One
Published August 18, 2026

Main Idea
Transformation doesn't begin with trying harder or changing our behavior. It begins by receiving the grace God has already given us through Jesus.
Scripture Focus
Ephesians 2:1–10
Key Observations
- Recognize my reality without Jesus. We cannot walk in our new identity until we are honest about our need for Jesus.
- See God's initiative in my redemption. God made the first move. His love and mercy moved Him toward us even when we were dead in our sin.
- Receive God's grace for my forgiveness and freedom. Grace is a gift to receive, not something we can earn through our performance.
- We have been given a seat with Jesus. Instead of striving for God's acceptance, we can rest in the grace He has already given us.
Group Discussion
- Where in your life are you most tempted to believe that transformation will happen if you simply try harder?
- Why is recognizing our reality without Jesus an important first step toward receiving God's grace?
- Read Ephesians 2:4–5. What does the phrase "But God" reveal about who takes the initiative in our redemption?
- Pastor David described grace as something we receive rather than something we earn. What are some ways we still try to earn God's acceptance through our behavior or performance?
- The sermon describes our position in Christ as having a "seat of grace." What would it look like for you to live from God's grace instead of constantly striving for His approval?
- Is there any shame, fear, failure, or feeling of unworthiness that makes God's grace difficult for you to fully receive? What truth from Ephesians 2 speaks to that?
Application
This week:
- Identify one area where you have been striving to earn what God has already freely given you.
- Spend time reading Ephesians 2:1–10 and remind yourself of who you are because of Jesus.
- When shame, fear, or inadequacy surfaces this week, stop and remind yourself: I don't have to strive for God's grace. I get to receive it.
Prayer Focus
Thank God for taking the initiative to rescue us through Jesus. Ask Him to reveal the places where you are still striving, performing, or carrying shame, and pray for the faith to receive His grace, forgiveness, and freedom each day.
