Baptism Sunday

Baptism Sunday

Opening

  • Why is it Good News that baptism is more than just a symbol—it’s a step into a brand-new life with Christ?
  • When faith feels like just a private belief instead of a bold witness, how do you respond?

Overview

Scripture: Romans 6:3-5

Paul teaches that baptism isn’t just a ritual—it’s a declaration that our old life is buried and that we have been raised into the new life Jesus offers. Baptism doesn’t earn salvation, but it powerfully expresses the inward transformation God has worked by grace through faith. It is our public "yes" to living under the Lordship of Christ.

Baptism marks the break from our old ways and the start of our new identity in Jesus. It's not a graduation—it’s a beginning, a bold step of obedience and public faith.

Main Idea

Baptism is not a casual symbol; it’s a serious commitment and a celebration of new life. When we are baptized, we’re announcing to the world: the old me is gone, and the new me is alive in Christ.

Paul shows that baptism unites us with Jesus' death and resurrection. Just as Christ was buried and raised, so we, too, leave behind the past and walk forward in resurrection life.

In a divided, distracted world, baptism publicly anchors us in Jesus. It moves faith from a private feeling to a public allegiance. It's a powerful reminder that salvation isn’t just about forgiveness—it’s about transformation.

Discussion Questions

  • How does understanding baptism as a break from the old life shape the way you view your own walk with Jesus?
  • Where is God inviting you to step into a more public, bold expression of your faith this week?

Closing

Pray for boldness from the Holy Spirit to live out your life in Christ with courage, public faith, and joy, remembering that baptism marks the start of a Spirit-empowered journey.
