Apprenticing and Awakening | Harvest | Week Two

Opening

Talk to group members about getting snowed in. What did you do when the streets were covered in snow and ice? Did you stay home or get out in the weather?

Overview

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 3:6-8, Acts 17:22-31

Main Idea: We don’t argue or apologize people to Jesus. Instead, we apprentice, and God awakens.

Sharing the Gospel is a collaborative effort; we plant seeds and water them, but God provides the growth. However, there are some common mistakes people make when sharing the Gospel. One mistake is arguing; some believe that strong arguments will lead others to Jesus. Another mistake is excessive apologizing; others think that frequent apologies about Jesus’s commands and ethics will earn respect and change beliefs. The problem is that arguing rarely wins hearts, and apologies often fail to gain respect.

In Acts 17:22-31, Paul connects with the people of Athens by meeting them where they are, rather than using harsh judgment. He identifies their needs and shows how Jesus fulfills them. Building relationships and actively listening to understand people’s experiences is vital when sharing the Gospel.

Paul’s message isn’t about introducing another idol but revealing true purpose and the abundant life God offers through Jesus. This life includes renewed relationships, purpose, joy, hope, and rescue from sin and death. It's not just a set of rules; it’s the most fulfilling way to live.

He invited people to believe in Jesus which shows us how to share personal stories of repentance. Paul also recognized that Gospel conversations might end with someone saying no, which is okay—our responsibility is simply to share the message while allowing the Holy Spirit to work.

Discussion Questions

How can you meet someone where they are in a Gospel conversation?

How can you connect their beliefs to the message of Jesus?

How would you share with someone what God is offering through Jesus Christ?

What is the best way to accept someone’s “no” about the Gospel?

Closing

Pray together for God to give the opportunity to apprentice someone in the Gospel.
